Rotherham United are delighted to confirm that long-serving Club Captain Richard Wood has put pen-to-paper on a new contract, keeping him at AESSEAL New York Stadium until June 2023.

The skipper’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer, but following another impressive campaign at the heart of the Millers’ backline, Wood has been rewarded with an extended South Yorkshire stay, which will see him into his ninth season at the football club.

Wood has already secured legend status at the club, having helped Paul Warne’s side to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2017/18 – including a Wembley brace in the Play-off final against Shrewsbury – as well as 2019/20 and 2021/22, with the defender also lifting the Papa Johns Trophy at the home of football.

The fans’ favourite will remain as the club’s longest-serving player, first arriving at AESSEAL New York Stadium in 2014. He has gone on to make over 200 appearances in Rotherham colours, scoring 18 times.
