It’s fair to say it has been a season of ‘firsts’ for defender Wes Harding.
A first career goal, a first visit to Wembley which resulted in a first cup win and of course, a first promotion, were all achieved by the defender during the course of the 2021/22 campaign.
Harding made 47 appearances across all competitions for the Millers during one of the club’s most successful seasons ever and Wes beamed the achievements of the class of 2022 went far beyond what anyone could have dreamt of before the first ball was kicked against Plymouth Argyle back in August.
“It has been a wonderful season, I don’t even think you’d have been able to dream about how good it was going to be,” Harding told www.themillers.co.uk.
“To achieve what we’ve achieved with the cup win and promotion has been absolutely amazing and I’m proud to have been apart of it all."
“This will always be a campaign I’ll look back on with fond memories. It’s the first time I’ve played at Wembley and won a trophy and the first promotion of my career, as well.
"Whatever I go on to achieve in football, I’ll always have this year as one to cherish.”
The summer and a well-deserved rest awaits Wes and the rest of the Millers squad, before attention turns to the new campaign in the second tier.
The Jamaica international was voted the Supporters’ Player of the Season the last time Rotherham were at the level and the 25-year-old insists the squad will work tirelessly once again to try and achieve their main objectives.
“It’ll be a big challenge, we’ll prepare and train hard in pre-season and when that first game comes around, we’ll be ready for it.
“We’ll go into the Championship with high hopes. We know what we can achieve and we’re going to work hard to ensure we give ourselves every chance.
“This is a team without egos and we all work hard for each other. When you know that everyone in the team is going to work hard for you, you want to work hard for them as well.”
