ACADEMY | Young Millers treated to ‘signing night’ at AESSEAL New York Stadium

13 May 2022

Rotherham United Academy welcomed their newest recruits on Wednesday evening, as the 10 new players celebrated joining the Under 9s group of the Foundation Phase, with their families present to enjoy the occasion!

The young stars were firstly given a presentation before taking up the opportunity for pictures. After this, they were treated to a tour of the first team changing rooms prior to taking more pictures, this time in the Les Payne Press Room.

Goalkeeper Vinny, Harry, Will, Ethan, Olly, Caleb, Kingsley, Jamie, Freddie and Max were all ‘signed up’, as the Academy prepare for the new campaign.

It has been an exciting week for the young Millers, who also had the chance to turn out on the AESSEAL New York Stadium pitch on Tuesday, with internal games right from the U8s through to the U12s of the Foundation Phase Group.

Lead Foundation Phase Coach Dave Atkinson was delighted to see so many smiling faces on a big night for the youngsters and wanted to place on record his thanks to outgoing Pre-Academy Lead Michael Lowe, who is departing this summer after four years in the role.

“It was a pleasure to see so many smiling faces as these young lads were rewarded for all of their hard work by moving onto the next step of their journey with us," Atkinson told www.themillers.co.uk.

“Over 80 family members were in attendance for what we’re sure will have been an unforgettable night for everyone involved.

"The lads were given a tour of the AESSEAL New York Stadium, as well as being able to play on the pitch a day earlier, an experience we're sure they all enjoyed.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to Michael Lowe who has done a terrific job during the last four years and the young lads joining us for next year are a credit to him.

“Thank you for all your efforts Michael and we all wish you all the best for the future.”
