Rotherham United can confirm that our appeal against Angus MacDonald’s red card picked up on Saturday’s defeat to Shrewsbury Town has been unsuccessful.

The club submitted evidence ahead of a 1pm deadline on Tuesday, but following a meeting between an independent Regulatory Commission, during which the case was examined, it has been decided that referee Anthony Backhouse’s decision has been upheld.

MacDonald was sent off for Violent Conduct during the Sky Bet League One match on Saturday 19th March against Shrewsbury Town.

The defender will now serve a three-match suspension which will start with him sitting out the Sky Bet League One fixture with Charlton Athletic at AESSEAL New York Stadium, on Saturday 9th April.

The ban will not apply for the Papa Johns Trophy Final, meaning MacDonald will be eligible to feature for the Millers against Sutton United on Sunday 3rd April at Wembley Stadium.
