Paul Warne admitted he was pleased for his players for landing a memorable day out at Wembley in the Papa John's Trophy final, having edged past Hartlepool United on Wednesday night...

“I’m really pleased for the players. I said at the hotel before we left do it for your families. It’s nice to give them something back. I asked them even if we lose, that we lose giving it everything, and we did.

“I know we made eight changes and I was up for ridicule for doing that but I had to with the problems we have got. I thought the subs came on and had an effect. The lads are buzzing, obviously. However, we have to try and recover quickly because we have Wycombe in two and a half days.

“I was pleased with the first 15 minutes. Hartlepool were the better side for about half an hour. The conditions had an effect, especially the wind but our better players composed themselves in the second half.

“Shane Ferguson is one of the best substitutions of my career. He come on for ten seconds, did not put a foot wrong and scored his penalty.

“The dressing room is really happy. We’ve always tried to win and made subs to win. Tonight, we played against a very good side in very good atmosphere, and just nicked on a flick of a coin.”
