Rotherham United would like to say a huge thank you to the McGrath family, who have made a donation to the Millers Memory club in memory of lifelong supporter Steve, who passed away recently.
Steve’s wife Jacqueline, his family and friends made the decision to raise money for the newly-founded Memory Club at his funeral and raised £350 which will help towards running costs of a service that looks to support people in the Rotherham community who are suffering with, or who have encountered memory-related illnesses.
Steve himself attended the Memory Club at AESSEAL New York Stadium and was a passionate, lifelong follower of Rotherham United.
His loving wife Jacqueline made contact with our Honorary Life President – and driving force behind the running of the Memory Club – John Breckin to inform him of the wonderful gesture that Steve’s family and friends had made in his name.
Breck explained that he was deeply saddened to have learned of the passing of a huge Millers supporter before expressing his gratitude towards Steve’s family for their kind donation.
“Firstly, I’d like to offer my heartfelt condolences to Jacqueline and all of Steve’s family and friends,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.
“It is always really saddening to learn of the passing of a Millers fan and I know that Steve was as passionate as they come for all things Rotherham United.
“I know that he came down to the Memory Club so knew what it was all about and the donation that his family and friends have made in his name will go such a long way to supporting the people who come along.
“Understandably, a lot of group members are of an older generation and perhaps don’t drive or can’t and any funds that we are able to raise help us to sort travel for them so that they can attend the group.
“On behalf of everyone here at Rotherham United, I would like to say an enormous thank you to Steve’s wife Jacqueline, his family and friends and everyone who has helped to raise a fantastic amount for a group that we are really passionate about.
“Rest in Peace, Steve. Once a Miller, Always a Miller.”
The Millers Memory Club is set to meet this Friday 10th June 2022 in the Goal Zone area of the Community Sports Trust offices at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
There is no charge to attend and light refreshments are provided by our wonderful group of volunteers.
