Rotherham United can confirm that defender Michael Ihiekwe will also leave the club upon the expiry of his current deal to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The 29-year-old defender arrived from Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 2017 and has enjoyed three promotions to the Sky Bet Championship and a Papa Johns Trophy triumph during his time under Paul Warne's tutelage.

The Liverpudlian made 184 appearances in all during his time at AESSEAL New York Stadium, with his time in South Yorkshire also included a temporary switch to Accrington Stanley.

Ihiekwe managed 14 goals in Millers colours including one in the Papa Johns Trophy final against Sutton United.

The defender is another player who was offered improved terms with Rotherham United and has been in discussions with the club throughout the summer, but opts to pursue a new challenge. Whilst we are obviously disappointed that Michael has chosen to decline those offers, we would like to thank him for his service whilst with the club.
