Rotherham United stopper Josh Vickers has been crowned the PA Entertainments UK Man of the Match as he helped the Millers to a memorable 2-0 success over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Millers have now kept six successive clean sheets in the league and the defence were on song once again to deny an in-form Owls side. The stopper saved from Mendez-Laing, Hunt and Palmer in the first half, before Rotherham took the lead through Freddie Ladapo on 57 minutes.

Wednesday probed for an equaliser but on the rare occasions they did get through a stubborn visiting backline, Vickers again stood tall. Bannan took aim from a free kick, beaten away by Vickers. Mendez-Laing, through on goal, saved.

The home side could not break through and the victory was sealed with seven minutes to go. Michael Smith, with his third successive Hillsborough goal with a wonderfully calculated finish.

Wes Harding, Michael Smith and Richard Wood were all nominated, in what was a perfect away performance from Paul Warne’s side, but it was Vickers who took the award, with 34.7% of the 903 votes cast.

This poll is supported by our friends at PA Entertainments and Terrace Threads.

PA Entertainments have been long-term supporters of the football club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the AESSEAL New York Stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

Supporters may be aware that we recently welcomed Terrace Threads on-board, who took up the option of sponsoring our newly-produced ‘Goal Gifs’ for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign.

Following discussions between the two parties, they have collaborated to give supporters an added incentive to vote for our Twitter Man of the Match Poll, with fans who cast a vote and retweet our social media poll automatically entered into a prize draw to win a Beanie Hat from Terrace Threads.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match and the lucky winner of the Beanie Hat will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match is on Friday, when the Millers host Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
