READ | A game-winning save and a PA Entertainments Man of the Match award for Vickers in Stanley triumph

Amidst all the chaos in a dramatic finale at AESSEAL New York Stadium, one man remained totally composed throughout. Not only was Josh Vickers an assured figure and pivotal in the Millers recording yet another clean sheet in Sky Bet League One, but when called upon to save the day, he denied Harry Pell the equaliser from the spot right at the death.

A more than worthy candidate then for the PA Entertainments Man of the Match award versus Accrington Stanley.

Much has been made of how Rotherham United have two goalkeepers of their own – and two to be proud of as well – but it is the former Lincoln City man who has the starting shirt at present and it is his form keeping him between the sticks.

Paul Warne’s men produced yet another defensive shutout against Accrington Stanley, adding further to their tally of clean sheets in 2021/22 and, on the occasions on which he was called upon, Vickers was once again a calming influence, making a string of accomplished saves before producing a match-winning stop to keep out Pell at the end.

Competition for the award came from all over the pitch as the Millers extended their advantage at the top of the table with three points, but it was Ben Wiles, Will Grigg and Dan Barlaser – who scored a wonderstrike to win it – that were also nominated in our online Twitter poll.

Of the 1,033 votes cast though, Vickers emerged as the clear victor, landing 71.9%, with Barlaser closest to him with 16.3%.

A well-deserved reward for your fine form in recent weeks, Josh!

Background

This poll is supported by our friends at PA Entertainments and Terrace Threads.

PA Entertainments have been long-term supporters of the football club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the AESSEAL New York Stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

Supporters may be aware that we recently welcomed Terrace Threads on-board, who took up the option of sponsoring our newly-produced ‘Goal Gifs’ for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign.

Following discussions between the two parties, they have collaborated to give supporters an added incentive to vote for our Twitter Man of the Match Poll, with fans who cast a vote and retweet our social media poll automatically entered into a prize draw to win a Beanie Hat from Terrace Threads.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match and the lucky winner of the Beanie Hat will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match is on Tuesday evening when the Millers travel to face AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One.
