Rotherham United are delighted to confirm that the club has acted quickly to agree a professional deal with Academy defender Hamish Douglas, who has penned a two-and-half-year contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium, subject to EFL and FA ratification.
Having joined the club’s youth setup at 12-years-old, Douglas had progressed through the ranks to scholarship level and had been representing the club’s U18s side before being identified by first team boss Matt Taylor as an individual who could train as a part of the senior group following his appointment.
The 17-year-old has continued to impress and develop in equal measure since being asked to make the step up at Roundwood and was included in the group that travelled to Cyprus for an overseas training camp during the World Cup break.

Douglas progressed through the Academy ranks operating in a central midfield role, but has been more recently deployed in central defence – a position that Taylor envisages him pursuing as his footballing education continues.
The Millers had Douglas tied down on a scholarship contract until the summer, but have taken action early to reflect their ambitions for the youngster, offering him professional terms before the turn of the year. The club are hopeful that a number of our other current scholars are able to earn themselves senior deals before the end of the coming season.

Having put pen-to-paper on his new deal, Douglas expressed his delight at achieving his boyhood dream of becoming a professional footballer, but insisted that the hard work has only just begun.
“I’m absolutely delighted, it is a dream come true for me and I’m so happy that all of my hard work to date has paid off in earning this contract, but the real work starts now," he told www.themillers.co.uk.
“I’m really grateful for the guidance that the Gaffer and the coaching staff have given me since they walked through the door."
“Their attention to detail in training, day in day out and what they’ve done for me has been amazing. They got me straight up there and I’ve loved it ever since, and they took me to Cyprus which was an incredible experience.
“I would also like to thank everyone at the Academy for believing in me and helping me get to this stage, I wouldn’t have been able to get to this stage without their support and guidance.”
Everyone at Rotherham United would like to congratulate Hamish on his first pro deal with the club, which we believe to be a fitting reward for his continued on-field development.
