With the help of our Stadium Naming Rights Partners AESSEAL, Rotherham United are incredibly proud to have taken a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to reduce the club’s single use of plastics as part of the Betterworld Solutions initiative.

AESSEAL are not only a market-leader in manufacturing, but also a company that has taken great strides towards making their operation environmentally-friendly and with their support, we are pleased to be making a significant ‘green’ change of our own which will impact the day-to-day running of the club’s Roundwood training base.

All of this has been made possible by AESSEAL’s commitment to the Betterworld Solutions project which has been founded as a business-friendly investment policy intended to encourage all stakeholders to bring sustainability projects that match the stated aim of that organisation’s policy, to the attention of the right people.

The club have been gifted - and subsequently fitted - a water filtration system which will not only purify tap water at the training ground - to the same level as you’d find in a bottled product - but also cool it before it leaves the faucet.

Beyond that, through the Betterworld Solutions initiative, AESSEAL have handed over 60 multi-use plastic bottles free of charge to members of Matt Taylor’s first team players and staff to use on a day-to-day basis at the training ground, which will, in turn, significantly reduce the number of single-use plastics at Roundwood.

The change was inspired by AESSEAL Managing Director Chris Rea after a meeting with Rotherham United first team striker – and recent graduate of a Masters degree in Renewable Energy and Environmental Finance – Georgie Kelly, who had fed back that there could potentially be scope to improve the club’s ‘green’ efforts by exploring new ways in which plastics could be used at Roundwood.

The system has now been installed for over a week and has been incredibly well-received by first team players and staff alike, who have quickly adapted to this new, more environmentally-friendly way of working.

Speaking after seeing the concept be brought to life at the training ground following those initial discussions, Georgie Kelly expressed his thanks to Chris Rea and everyone involved with the Betterworld Solutions project for their part in helping Rotherham United reduce its carbon footprint.

“It was really interesting to meet Chris and learn about the amazing ways in which AESSEAL are making significant positive environmental changes through the Betterworld Solutions project,” he told

“It was clear from the outset that he is keen to help every business take strides towards operating in a greener way, but as one of the club’s main partners, there was a real, passionate desire for him to make an impact in the area with Rotherham United.

“I know that the club are conscious of trying to reduce their carbon footprint and are focused on limiting the negative impact we have on the environment. For us to be able to take a massive step towards doing that by reducing the number of single-use plastics is amazing."

“We all have a responsibility to safeguard the sustainability of the resources available to us on this planet and I’m really pleased to hear that people at Board level of the club recognise that and have been really open to ways in which we can improve.

“On behalf of everyone at Rotherham United, I would like to say a huge thank you to Chris and everyone involved in the Betterworld Solutions project. This is a big step in the right direction which simply wouldn’t have been possible without their input.”

Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Chris and the teams of AESSEAL and Betterworld Solutions for their efforts to facilitate this change at Roundwood.
