Rotherham United defender Lee Peltier’s wealth of experience was on display for all as he assuredly commanded the backline – a display which earned him the Mattress Online Man of the Match award.
The Millers narrowly lost out on progression to the third round to a hard-working Morecambe side in the Carabao Cup. The experienced centre back Peltier captained the side and kept his defence regimented – proving nearly impossible to break down over the course of the 90 minutes.
Whenever the ball would land at his feet during any spell of Shrimps pressure, the AESSEAL New York Stadium would breathe a collective sigh of relief as Peltier would consistently look to pull the strings from the back – tracking and executing brilliant ball long balls over the top of the Morecambe defence, in search of Norton-Cuffy and Bramall on either side, or straight through the middle to the towering partnership of Tom Eaves and Georgie Kelly.
The centre back won 47.9% of the public vote, as 516 were cast. Peltier scooped the award over Georgie Kelly, Scott High, and Wes Harding – with honourable mentions necessary for Jamie McCart and Ollie Rathbone.
