As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that AESSEAL New York Stadium remains a safe place for everyone to watch football, Rotherham United would like to inform supporters that a number of our safety procedures have been reviewed and updated.
Together with the EFL, clubs around the country have been addressing the issue of supporter safety and fan behaviour as part of the newly-launched ‘Love Football. Protect the Game’ campaign the aim of which is to stamp out anti-social behaviour at football matches – an issue which has unfortunately been on the rise in recent seasons.
The club have reviewed our own policies and procedures at length and – following an incident in the wake of the opening day fixture with Swansea City – have further analysed the practices that we can put into place to keep fans safe.
On the back of those discussions the club has installed new segregation netting, designed to make encroaching into opposition supporter areas significantly more difficult. As a further measure on that front, there will be an additional stewarding presence in the areas that home and away supporters are in closest proximity.
Our CCTV systems will continue to be monitored on matchdays with footage also studied retrospectively to ensure that any perpetrators of anti-social behaviour of any kind are punished.
Once again, we know that the majority of our fanbase are impeccably behaved and are a credit to our football club and the above measures are in place to ensure that those same supporters are able to enjoy the match in a safe and friendly environment.
