Rotherham United boss Paul Warne admitted the Millers weren't at their scintillating best but got the job done as they secured their safe passage into round two of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 win over Port Vale at Vale Park on Wednesday night...

"It wasn't a classic. I said to the lads after the game that it isn't something that we'll wake up tomorrow and remember forever.

"We got through and I said to the lads before the game that there were loads of Championship teams who had lost to lower league opposition and they're really tricky games.

"It is early in the season and there were parts of our game that I really liked and parts that I wasn't so keen on, but we won, we got through and as a cup game, that's what it's all about.

"We got some minutes into some people and the Cohens and the Jamies [McCart] haven't started a game together before, so there is loads that we can work on.

"We intended to turn up tonight to win and we've done that. I think we can be pleased with that."
