Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are proud to be the only Professional Football Club to host a DWP Youth Hub and have supported over 100 young people into employment since it’s launch in January 2021.

The Youth Hub was launched in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), with the aim to help improve employment outcomes and prospects for unemployed individuals and groups who face complex barriers to work. The Youth Hub at the AESSEAL New York stadium was created as part of the UK Government’s 2021 £30bn plan for jobs.

RUCST’s Youth and Employability Hub has helped to secure over 100 new jobs for local young people. We have also successfully delivered over 400 action plans that have enabled young people aged 18-24 to create a clear career plan, giving them motivation to move closer or into employment.

Support from RUCST’s Youth Hub included help with writing CV’s, practice mock interviews, referrals for courses, voluntary work, referrals to business start-ups and apprenticeships (including Kickstart).

Due to the partnership, a DWP Youth Hub Work Coach is based in the Youth Hub throughout the week to create a joined up approach and to support us in helping participants find employment.

We have also hosted various careers and Kickstart events in partnership with the DWP where local employers base themselves in the Youth Hub and we invite young people in to find out about any vacancies. These events have been extremely popular with the latest event hosting 22 local employers and over 40 people attending throughout the day.

Dave Horner (DWP’s Employer Adviser Manager for Doncaster) said: “It is great to be working in Partnership with Rotherham United Community Trust they have an excellent record of working with the community and young adults and have been rewarded for this excellent community work with many accolades from the EFL

Throughout the last 12 months we have organised a range of activities in the Youth Hub including; Motivational Talks, How to be confident in a Job Interview, Careers in Health and Social Care (NHS) and benefits to working. Sandra Greatorex (Employability & Skills Officer) has created a weekly drop-in session ‘Career One Stop’ where local young people can visit the New York Stadium and obtain any support they may need to help them to progress into employment.

Sandra has been delighted with the success of the Youth Hub “Since the Youth and Employability Hub was opened we have been extremely busy working with young people who have needed help and support to get into employment. The individuals have been a pleasure to work with, and we had brilliant experiences with finding out about their amazing aspirations for their future. We’ve worked hard to support these local young people, and it is extremely rewarding when we find out they’ve been successful and got a job”.

James Mahoney (Education Manager) added: “We are incredibly proud to host one of the DWP’s Youth Hubs at Rotherham United, allowing us to support people in Rotherham move closer to employment. Throughout the last 2 years the impact of Covid-19 has had a huge impact on communities including a rise in unemployment. We are delighted that our work can help play a small part in getting people back in to work.”
