READ | Wiles picked as PA Entertainments Man of the Match from Burton defeat

Rotherham United midfielder Ben Wiles has been awarded the PA Entertainments Man of the Match from a disappointing night in Sky Bet League One which saw his side defeated 2-0 by Burton Albion.

The Millers suffered an early setback when Cameron Borthwick-Jackson struck after just three minutes leaving Paul Warne’s men with a mountain to climb. In their search for an equaliser, the game opened up and Burton dealt them a further blow when skipper John Brayford capitalised on a set piece situation to head home a second.

On a night which every Millers fan was hoping would go differently, there was plenty of endeavour from everyone in a Rotherham United shirt but defending from the Brewers which can only be described as ‘heroic’ on occasion, ensured that the visitors were unable to find a way back into the match.

Ben Wiles was chosen as the standout performer, with his forward-thinking approach to the game helping the Millers to a series of second half chances, one of which fell his way in the form of a header which was saved following a good ball in from Michael Smith.

With results elsewhere – most notably in the form of MK Dons’ defeat – being kind to the Millers on the night, it means that despite an opportunity missed, Warne’s men remain in the ‘driving seat’ for automatic promotion as they head toward another key encounter, this time at home to Play-off chasing Oxford United on Saturday.

Wiles was nominated in the poll alongside Viktor Johnasson, Ollie Rathbone and Chiedozie Ogbene and claims the award with 40.8% of the 799 votes cast.

This poll is supported by our friends at PA Entertainments and Terrace Threads.

PA Entertainments have been long-term supporters of the football club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the AESSEAL New York Stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

Supporters may be aware that we recently welcomed Terrace Threads on-board, who took up the option of sponsoring our newly-produced ‘Goal Gifs’ for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign.

Following discussions between the two parties, they have collaborated to give supporters an added incentive to vote for our Twitter Man of the Match Poll, with fans who cast a vote and retweet our social media poll automatically entered into a prize draw to win a Beanie Hat from Terrace Threads.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match and the lucky winner of the Beanie Hat will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match is on Saturday, when the Millers welcome Oxford United to AESSEAL New York Stadium in Sky Bet League One.
