Michael Smith has won his second award of the evening at the 2021/22 Season Dinner, claiming the Players’ Player of the Season crown, sponsored by Carlsberg.
As is customary for this award, we asked the Rotherham United players who they would choose as their standout performer of the season, with Smith landing a comprehensive victory, despite competition from a number of candidates, including Ben Wiles and Josh Vickers.
The forward has been in sensational form this term, helping himself to a career-best goal tally of 24 in all competitions which has complemented the industrious displays he has always been renowned for.
Smith netted his first of the campaign in August with a 35 yard stunner against Morecambe and hasn’t looked back since, with other memorable goals including a brace against Sunderland during a 5-1 victory over Sunderland in October, as well as another double against Hartlepool United, which helped the Millers to the Papa Johns Trophy Final.
