Rotherham United Academy returned to winning ways at the weekend with a convincing win against Burton Albion at St. George’s Park.
The Millers had been dealt their first defeat of the campaign at the hands of Grimsby Town the previous week, but wasted no time in getting back to the swing of things, taking a ninth minute lead through Adam Clark.
Ciaran McGuckin continued his fine start to the campaign with another goal on 42 minutes, before Curtis Durose added gloss to the scoreline 10 minutes after the interval.
The result saw Richard Hairyes’ side climb back to the top of the EFL Youth Alliance standings, with five wins from their six games played so far.
Academy manager Richard Hairyes was left delighted with a performance he described as the best of the season.
He told www.themillers.co.uk:
"It was our best performance of the season so far, which was incredibly pleasing for all of us. It was fantastic to bounce back with such a good performance.
"Our out of possession work was really good, they executed the game plan from the first minute, which, after working on it all week, was incredibly pleasing to see.
"We’ve had a few injuries as well, as you know, so had a few lads playing their first games of the season.
"They came in and performed well, so that will give us all a bit of a headache going forward, but having competition for places is a real plus."
