REPORT | Academy 2 v 1 Morecambe

27 September 2021

Rotherham United Academy made it two wins from two in their 2021/22 Youth Alliance Cup campaign, with a hard fought victory over Morecambe at Roundwood Sports Complex.

After seeing off Carlisle United in their opening group game, the 2019/20 runners-up strengthened their grip at the top of the group with another victory here.

The Millers took a deserved lead through in-form forward Ciaran McGuckin in the first half, before the Shrimps equalised against the run of play just before the break.

The young guns continued to press and found the winner they deserved in the second period through McGuckin, who capped off a fine individual performance with his second of the game and sealed the victory for his side.

ACADEMY XI | Burnett; Greenhouse, Carroll, Booth, Exton; Hatton (Watson 67’), Durose, Douglas, Champion; McGuckin, Clark (Day 85’).

UNUSED | Ford, Warne, Jenkinson.
