It had to be, didn’t it.
Rotherham United professional debutant and goalscorer Jake Hull caps his first outing for the senior side by landing the PA Entertainments Man of the Match award for his display at the heart of the defence in Tuesday night’s 6-0 thrashing of Doncaster Rovers in the Papa John’s Trophy.
In fairness, you could have drawn the name of anybody involved at the Keepmoat Stadium out of a hat and not been far from the right result, but we are incredibly proud to see the 19-year-old Academy graduate claim his first ever Man of the Match.
Hull’s performance had everything - a composed display belying his tender years which included a near-post headed goal, but more importantly a clean sheet.
Of the 1,122 votes cast in the post-match social media poll, Hull earned 33%, edging out another debutant in Will Grigg who finished closest with 31%.
Hakeem Odoffin and Dan Barlaser were also nominated for their excellent displays in Doncaster on Tuesday night.
Well done, Jake! Hopefully the first of many more to come!
🏆 | Plenty to choose from tonight, but we've narrowed it down to four.

Background
This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.
As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.
The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.
The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Saturday, when the Millers welcome Fleetwood Town to AESSEAL New York Stadium.
