Rotherham United Esports team are delighted to announce the launch of our new Esports school thanks to a successful enrichment programme at the Rotherham United Sports College.

The new Esports School is designed to engage children from the age of 11 and offers virtual coaching in a safe online environment. This coaching will introduce Esports and online safety to individuals, and this will help give them focus from an otherwise uncontrolled and unmonitored environment.

Esports Project Manager Rob Hawden said:

“Many children are currently locked away in their bedrooms playing FIFA, amongst other games, and this is a big worry for parents.

We believe, we have found the perfect remedy for this by introducing The Rotherham United Esports School.
At the school, we will offer both on-site sessions at the New York Stadium, and Parkgate Astro, as well as some virtual classes too!

Our after school coaching offer is part of the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust alternative Sports offer, and help the children improve many different life skills such as communication, teamwork and will also help them to develop their social skills.

It is also good for parents too, as the online environment is a safe place and as the Esports course is structured, much like our other coaching courses at the Trust, parents can expect to see a positive change in the child’s personal development too.”

The Esports team already have several adult teams, including a development team, where players can come, learn, and make friends.

Esports Director and Rotherham United Supporter Joe Burrell said:

“I have been involved with the Esports set up since the begining, and I have seen first hand, just what a diffence it makes to people’s lives, having an esports programme.

We have reached out to more than 500 participants in the last 3 years, we have secured lottery funding in which to further our goals post covid.

We feel our Esports School is going to be a huge success and when we have enough players signed, we will be able to expand and begin plans for a real RUFC Esports Youth Team.”
