Rotherham United Women FC are delighted to announce the expansion of the club with the addition of a brand-new reserve team and new coaching staff.

The re-structuring of the club sees the current first team manager Trevor Fox transitioning into the role of General Manager of the Club alongside Chairman Jamie Noble and Secretary Val Hoyle. Fox will also take charge of the RUWFC Reserve team, utilising his fantastic recruitment skills and passion for women’s football to develop younger players with the aim to feed them through to the first team.

After a surge of interest and applications for the first team managerial role, RUWFC are delighted to announce that Tony Palmer has been appointed as the new first team manager for the remainder of the 2021/22 season and beyond.

With 6 years’ worth of experience in the Women’s National League and East Midlands Premier Division, Palmer is the perfect fit for the role at RUWFC, who are aiming for promotion to the Women’s National League this year. His dedicated and passionate approach has earned him the honour of winning FA coach of the year in 2015 from the Nottinghamshire FA, and he describes himself as “a confident, highly motivated coach with excellent technical knowledge”.

Palmer brings 20 years’ worth of coaching experience and a UEFA A licence qualification to the role, having an abundance of previous experience in coaching/managing at Mansfield Town, Notts County Academy, Sheffield United Women, Derby County and Nottingham Forest Centre of Excellence. His fantastic track record is bolstered by the fact that he has progressed male and female players into professional teams throughout his career.

The Millers Women are currently 6th in the Premier division of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League and are set to face Sheffield Wednesday Ladies this Sunday in the second round of the Vitality FA Cup.

Chairman Jamie Noble said:

“We are delighted to announce the expansion of the club and are very excited to appoint Tony as our new first team manager. He brings a huge amount of coaching experience to the first team, and shares our values on where we want to go as a club. It’s exciting for the club to be taking on a manager with such fantastic experience and such an in-depth knowledge of the game.”

Tony Palmer said:

“It’s a huge pleasure and honour for me to be working with the first team at Rotherham United Women. I’m delighted to accept the role as first team manager and I am looking forward to working collaboratively as a team with all the senior players to expand and try to take the team forward to the next level.

This is a huge opportunity for me and my team to challenge the girls to be successful on and off the pitch, as we push for the title and promotion this year.

This team has a lot of potential, and the club has a lot of ambition. I want to help get the club to where they want to be”.
