The Papa John’s Trophy always provides an opportunity for those who may not have got as many first team minutes as they’d have liked to impress, and midfielder Hakeem Odoffin grabbed the chance with both hands on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old joined the Millers in the summer from Scottish outfit Hamilton Academical, but has found games at a premium thus far, thanks to the good form of fellow midfielders Ollie Rathbone, Ben Wiles, Jamie Lindsay and Dan Barlaser.

Odoffin has performed well when called upon in the 2021/22 version of the EFL Trophy and he capped a fine display in the middle of the park against the Iron with a goal in a 4-1 victory.

Collecting Kieran Sadlier’s pass following a flowing counter-attacking move, the midfielder picked his spot and swept the ball into the far corner from 25 yards to double his side’s advantage on the night.

Odoffin took the crown with 39.5% of the 555 votes cast, ahead of Will Grigg and Freddie Ladapo- who also got their names on the scoresheet -  as well as Tolaji Bola.

This poll is supported by our friends at PA Entertainments and Terrace Threads.

PA Entertainments have been long-term supporters of the football club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the AESSEAL New York Stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

Supporters may be aware that we recently welcomed Terrace Threads on-board, who took up the option of sponsoring our newly-produced ‘Goal Gifs’ for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign.

Following discussions between the two parties, they have collaborated to give supporters an added incentive to vote for our Twitter Man of the Match Poll, with fans who cast a vote and retweet our social media poll automatically entered into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher to spend with Terrace Threads.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match and the lucky winner of the £50 Terrace Threads voucher will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match is on Saturday 16th October when the Millers welcome Portsmouth to AESSEAL New York Stadium in Sky Bet League One.
