Rotherham United Academy fell to defeat this weekend against Lincoln City, with the Imps recording a 5-1 victory.

The Millers have made a fine start to the EFL Youth Alliance campaign, but faced a stern test on the road in Lincolnshire, ultimately falling to defeat.

The youngsters were amongst the goals again, with substitute Adam Clark coming off the bench to score in the 83rd minute, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Millers slipping to a rare defeat.

Lead Development Coach Rob Poulter believes the result will act as a learning curve for the young players and is now looking ahead to tomorrow’s FA Youth Cup First Round tie with Boldmere St Michaels.

“It was a tough game, Lincoln are on a really good run of form at the minute and have turned their results right around of late,” Poulter told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We have to take the result on the chin and learn from it and I think we will do that. It was good to give some game time to our under 16s and some of them will be involved on Tuesday night against Boldmere St Michaels in the FA Youth Cup.

“We’ve been back on the training ground this morning, working on a few things and looking ahead to the game tomorrow.

“This is all part of their development. We are better than what we showed on Saturday and we know we are, we want to put that right on Tuesday.”

ACADEMY XI | Ford; Greenhouse, Carroll, Exton, Jenkinson (Bond 46’); Booth, Durose, Douglas, Champion (Clark 73’); McGuckin, Warne.
