Michael Smith has landed the League One PFA Vertu Motors Fans Player of the Month award following a sensational month of goalscoring form in Sky Bet League One.
Smudge netted five times and assisted a further two, helping his side to 13 points from a possible 15 available, in the process.
The Geordie forward has really set the league alight this month and is in contention to win another award tomorrow, in the shape of the League One Player of the Month Award.
The PFA and Vertu Motors have today announced the winners of the October Fans’ Player of the Month award for the Premier League, WSL, Championship, EFL League One and EFL League Two.
Another incredible month for Mohamed Salah earned him the Premier League award for the second month running, which was replicated in Championship by Fulham marksman Aleksandar Mitrovic – both players are top scorers in their respective leagues.
Last month’s winner in the WSL Fran Kirby was edged out this time by her England teammate and Manchester United’s Ella Toone, who also saw off competition of three nominees from table-toppers Arsenal.
Michael Smith of Rotherham United and Tom James of Leyton Orient, won the EFL League One and EFL League Two awards respectively to round off the winners for this month.
The awards saw a significant rise in engagement this month compared to last month, with a 96% increase in voting and 70% more entrants take part in the award’s monthly competition.
