Rotherham United can confirm that they have successfully appealed the red card issued to Michael Smith in the South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

Smith’s three-match suspension has been removed by an independent Regulatory Commission following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

The Millers forward was sent off for violent conduct during the Sky Bet Championship match on Wednesday (3rd March 2021) against Sheffield Wednesday.

The club collated footage of the incident to be considered for an appeal of wrongful dismissal and submitted the claim on Thursday morning.

The three-match ban that Smith was set to serve as a result of the incident will now no longer be imposed, making him available for selection for Rotherham United’s trip to Brentford this weekend.
