Rotherham United striker Michael Smith has been voted the PA Entertainments Man of the Match following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The forward gave the Millers the lead just before the break when he headed home Wes Harding’s cross to notch his 100th career goal.

It was Smith’s all-round display and as ever, unwavering commitment to the cause, which saw the 29-year-old earn the accolade, winning 32.5% of the 1060 votes cast following the full-time whistle on Saturday.

He just edged clear of captain and fellow goal-scorer Richard Wood and right-wing-back Wes Harding, who took 30.8% and 27.8% of the vote respectively.

On a day where every member of the team could have been put up on the shortlist, midfielder Matt Crooks also saw himself nominated, but ultimately, it was Smith who took the plaudits from the supporters' vote after the victory over the Robins.

This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Good Friday, when the Millers face Millwall at The Den.
