The brand new Future Stars Girls development programme has got off to a flying start with exceptional attendances from local girls after its official launch in April.

Experienced UEFA qualified coaches from Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) have been delivering this programme weekly at Parkgate Astro to girls of any ability level who are aged 5-16.

The aim of this programme is to get local girls playing football, and to offer progression opportunities as they get older to join Rotherham United Women’s first team.

So far, the Monday sessions at Parkgate Astro have been extremely well attended. We have two really good groups forming, with a 5 – 7-year-old group which is based on fun games to develop their skills and comfort with the ball at their feet. Our 8 – 11-year-old group have been developing their individual skills and then applying them to small-sided games.

RUCST are hoping to be able to provide these girls with opportunities to play against opposition teams in the near future to help further their development, but overall, we’re really pleased with the start we’ve made, and we’ll keep working towards the vision we have for this programme.

We'd also like to thank the players from Rotherham United Women FC who have supported our sessions and provided our Future Stars with some fantastic role models.

At RUCST, we are keen to create a lasting legacy for girls and women within the community. Our coaches are passionate about introducing young girls into the sport and developing their skills and understanding of the game.
