Rotherham United can confirm that the club have reached an agreement with defender Adam Thompson to mutually terminate his contract with the club.

The defender was set to remain with the Millers until the summer of 2021, but has opted to end his time at AESSEAL New York Stadium to pursue a new opportunity.

Thompson made 14 appearances in all competitions during the 2019/20 campaign, helping the Millers win automatic promotion from Sky Bet League One.

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne was full of praise for the defender who leaves with the manager’s best wishes.

“He (Adam Thompson) had an amazing season last year, I’ll always thank him and he’ll always be close to my heart. He’s a great kid and a great trainer,” Warne told www.themillers.co.uk.

“He nearly left in the summer window, I sat down with him and told him I didn’t think he’d get much game time and he’d be better furthering his career somewhere else.

“He goes with our full blessing, he’s been brilliant for me, never been a moment’s problem and his attitude is spot on. I know he’ll go on to have a great career.”

Everybody at Rotherham United would like to thank Adam for his contribution to the football club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
