Rotherham United goalkeeper Viktor Johansson is rapidly becoming a fans’ favourite here in South Yorkshire and his recent performances are only endearing him further to the Millers support – his most recent coming in the form of an excellent display in goal in the narrow defeat against Cardiff City.
The Swede, who arrived at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the summer and remains in competition with Jamal Blackman and Josh Vickers for the number one shirt, has been in fine form of late and has subsequently landed his second Man of the Match award for his performance against the Bluebirds.
The Millers were narrowly defeated by Mick McCarthy’s side on Tuesday night in another game that the hosts could quite easily have won on another day.
However, it was the goalkeeper who caught supporters’ eyes with one particularly excellent save to deny Sean Morrison, that would not have looked out of place on the world stage.
Having sustained a fairly serious cut to the eye in the weekend’s game against Preston North End, Johansson appeared unfazed and made a number of commanding claims amidst a sea of tall figures from a series of Will Vaulks long throws.
Michael Smith, Matt Crooks and Clark Robertson were also nominated for the MotM award, but it was Johansson who claimed it, with 40.1% of the 499 votes cast. Crooks finished as runner-up with 32.1% having also starred in the showing, netting the Millers’ goal in the process.

Background:
This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.
As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.
The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.
The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Saturday when the Millers host Queens Park Rangers at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
