Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are delighted to have launched a plastic bottle collection initiative in partnership with KCM Waste Management and MGB/Straight (part of IPL); in order to create a greener and more sustainable environment within the football club and the local community.

This project involves the collection of all single-use plastic drinks bottles from the pitch-side and the changing rooms on all match days at the New York Stadium. RUCST have launched this initiative as part of the #iwillweek campaign, as this project envisions that: “all children and young people should be supported and empowered to make a positive difference on the issues that affect their lives, their communities, and broader society”.

This initiative was launched in December 2020 and since then we have already collected and recycled an astounding 800 single use plastic bottles from 5 home games. This has occurred alongside our clean up the community social action projects; where local young people are collecting, and recycling plastic bottles from the streets of Rotherham.

Community Project Coordinator for RUCST Ant Bayou said:

“we are very excited to get involved in such an eco-friendly project that not only allows our club to play our part in being more environmentally friendly; but also gets the young people of Rotherham thinking about where our waste goes and how we can be more sustainable as a club and community”

Our partners at MGB/Straight kindly provided us with the recycling bins, and KCM Waste Management have offered us a place to dispose of all our plastic bottles in the eco-friendliest way.

Danny Johnson, Trade Waste Manager at KCM Waste Management said:

Everyone is rightly concerned about our dependence on plastics and on how we deal with our plastic waste. The time has come for decisive action to ensure we only use plastics in a sustainable manner.

Us at KCM are delighted to be working in conjunction with both RUFC and Rotherham United Community Sports Trust on the plastic recycling initiative to remove, recycle and reuse single use plastics that are discarded on match days.

We are proud to be long-serving RUFC partners with our sponsorship of the North Stand, the player dugouts and the academy kit. These are just a few of the ways in which we have supported the club since it’s move to the AESSEAL New York Stadium in 2012.”

At Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, we are passionate about creating positive change.
