Rotherham United Community Sports Trust are delighted to announce that we will be supporting Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign with the official launch of our ‘Proud Millers’ LGBTQ+ and Allies support group.

This year’s Rainbow Laces campaign has a clear message: ‘Football is for everyone’ and we at RUCST value this. The aim of the ‘Proud Millers’ group is to ensure our club becomes a more accessible and inclusive organisation for all our members and community.

‘Proud Millers’ will be a safe space where fans, participants and allies can discuss how Rotherham United (and football as a whole) can become more inclusive to those from LGBTQ+ communities. Whether this is through regular inclusive sports sessions or community education campaigns, we at RUCST aim to facilitate this.

From Thursday the 25th until Sunday 12th December, Rotherham United, amongst all other EFL clubs will support Stonewall’s campaign with specific match-day activities including rainbow-coloured corner flags, captain armbands and substitution board stickers.

The Millers League 1 home fixture vs Gillingham on the 7th December will be Rotherham United’s official Rainbow Laces fixture and the first ‘Proud Millers’ event at the New York Stadium. The meeting will take place from 6-7pmfor ages 16+ (initially) in the Community Health Suite (Floor 2) and will have special guest appearances from several members of Rotherham United Women’s first-team squad.

All attendees will receive a free match day ticket to the game if booked prior to attendance.

(Unfortunately, we will not be able to hand out tickets for walk-ins on the day due to tickets needing to be pre-booked). To confirm your attendance please use the contact details below.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Lace Up and Speak Up’, encouraging fans to speak up on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community, encouraging allyship and cohesion.

Rotherham United and the EFL clubs will also be using Rainbow Laces weekends to re-emphasise their ‘Together Against Discrimination’ match-day messaging which was launched at the start of the season.

For more information or to attend our first ‘Proud Millers’ event please contact Ant on inclusion@rotherhamunited.net or 01709 827 767.
