Saturday saw the perfect start to the bank holiday celebrations, as three points and South Yorkshire bragging derby bragging rights were all secured for Rotherham United supporters.
However, there was one name in Rotherham being toasted louder than others following the victory over Doncaster Rovers at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Michael Smith.
The striker put in a complete performance for his side, helping himself to two fantastically taken goals in the first half, as well as playing a key part in the Millers seeing the game out after being reduced to 10 men early in the second period.
His first saw him collect a perfectly-weighted pass from Mickel Miller before showing good composure to calmly stroke the ball home with his weaker foot.
The second saw him keep his nerve to volley home a low effort through a ruck of bodies into the bottom corner.
Smith’s all-round contribution saw him ease to the supporter’s Man of the Match crown, with 68.2% of the 639 votes cast.
Also nominated were Ollie Rathbone, Kieran Sadlier and Ben Wiles.

Background:
This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.
As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.
The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.
The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Saturday, when the Millers take on Doncaster Rovers at Keepmoat Stadium in the Papa John’s Trophy.
