A full league debut and a PA Entertainments Man of the Match award to go with it – not a bad night for summer signing Ollie Rathbone at Morecambe, then!
Having been deployed in the Millers engine room from the start in a league game by boss Paul Warne for the first time at Mazuma Stadium, it was clear the former Rochdale man was keen to impress and impress he did.
The all-action midfielder was seemingly everywhere as the Millers battled hard to a 1-0 win on the Fylde Coast courtesy of Michael Smith’s stunning long-range strike which proved the difference between the sides in a tight affair in Lancashire.
875 Millers supporters watching from the ground and from afar on iFollow Millers took part in our post-match Man of the Match poll, sponsored by PA Entertainments and it was Rathbone who emerged as the clear victor, securing 55.4% of the total votes cast.
Also nominated were Smith – who finished second with 32.3% - alongside Wes Harding and Ben Wiles.
This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.
As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.
The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.
The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Saturday, when the Millers face Sheffield Wednesday at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
