Rotherham United defender Angus MacDonald has been crowned the PA Entertainments Man of the Match for the first time, following his strong display in the Millers trip to Millwall on Good Friday.

Paul Warne’s side were dealt a narrow defeat by the Lions, after being reduced to 10 men just after an hour. The visitors stayed in the game right to the death, relying on some last-gasp defending to keep them in contention.

MacDonald showed his defensive prowess on 63 minutes, when he got across to block heroically, denying Mason Bennett a certain opener, with the forward having the goal at his mercy.

The defender was recognised for his all-round solid display by supporters, with him collecting 48.3% of the 543 votes cast.

Wes Harding, Michael Ihiekwe and Lewis Wing were all nominated, but it was Angus who claimed a clear majority.

This poll is supported by PA Entertainments who have been long-term supporters of the club and were hailed for their recent work which involved them lighting up the stadium in the colours of the NHS and more recently, with the image of a poppy for Armistice Day.

As part of the agreement, the club’s official Twitter account @OfficialRUFC will post an online poll after each Millers fixture allowing supporters to pick out their Man of the Match from the shortlist.

The PA Entertainments Man of the Match will be revealed on a Monday morning following a Saturday fixture or midday on the day after a midweek fixture.

The next opportunity for supporters to pick their Man of the Match will be on Saturday, when the Millers face Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium.
