Rotherham United manager Paul Warne believes Florian Jozefzoon is a great fit for for his side, after the Dutchman put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal.

The winger has made the temporary switch to AESSEAL New York Stadium from fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Derby County and will bolster the manager’s attacking options, following the unfortunate injury to Chiedozie Ogbene.

The manager though has insisted that, despite Chieo’s setback, he was already looking at further competition for wide options and explained that the management team were unanimous in their opinion that Jozefzoon was the best fit for the Millers.

“It’s great news that we’ve managed to get him into the football club. It’s obviously not good news that Chieo is injured but we were always looking for someone to assist the team anyway," Warne told www.themillers.co.uk.

“It’s not often we sign a Dutch footballer who has played for Ajax and PSV, but we didn’t sign him just because that, we signed him on the ability he showed while at Brentford.

“He’s similar to Chieo in the sense that he wants to take people on. He’s got a great footballing brain and is a really smiley character.

“We like our attacking players to take risks but they also have to have a really good work ethos. I think Florian is ideal for the way we play, we unanimously agreed that he was the best person for us.

“Rob (Scott) and his recruitment team have done a lot of work and we’re thankful to Derby as well who have been very helpful.”

As with all new signings, the 29-year-old had a Zoom meeting with manager Paul Warne and his coaching staff before making the decision to sign.

The winger adhered himself to the manager, who revealed that the conversations were all really positive.

“I did a lot of research on him asking people who had trained and played with him and they didn’t have a bad word to say about him," Warne said.

“We had a Zoom call with him and all the conversations we had with him were really positive.

“I think it’s a really great signing for us. We spoke about his story, his upbringing and his life, we get on really well and I’m buzzing he’s joined us.

“He can play either on the wing or as a ten, he’s got two good feet and he’s quick. He’s got great attributes and he’s a really good addition to our squad.”

Jozefzoon is in contention to make his debut for his new side ahead of Saturday’s clash with Norwich City, with the manager stressing he will assess the winger in training before making his decision on whether to include him in the matchday squad.

“He’s training today, he should do a full training session today and train tomorrow as well. We’ll make a decision on him after that," Warne explained.

“We need to pick a team that we think will win and who will give us the most benefits on the pitch. A fit Florian Jozefzoon would definitely do that, so we will assess him and see.”
