READ | Millers and Preston to mark Remembrance Day at this weekend's fixture

7 November 2020

Sponsored by

Rotherham United will join with Preston North End this weekend to pay their respects to our fallen servicemen and women with a minute’s silence at the prior to the Sky Bet Championship fixture at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The home game with the Lilywhites marks the Millers’ closest game to Remembrance Sunday and we will once again be paying our respects this weekend to all the fallen soldiers who have fought for the freedom we enjoy today.

We support an array of worthwhile campaigns and charities throughout the season, but we know that our tributes at this time of year are incredibly important, and we will not lose the sight of the importance of paying our respects this year.

Players from both Rotherham United and Preston North End will sport poppies on their shirts and wear black armbands during this fixture as a mark of respect.

The Millers’ jerseys from this game will subsequently be auctioned off to raise money for The Royal British Legion - a link to which we will provide once the shirts have been hand-signed by each player and the auctions set up.

As well as the above, both captains will be laying wreaths in the centre circle ahead of the game, before the club’s respective goalkeepers place them behind the goals for the duration of the Sky Bet Championship fixture.

Following discussions between the two clubs, both the Millers and Preston felt it was incredibly important, despite the absence of supporters in the ground, that we show our respects for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We thank everyone for showing their support from afar for our planned tributes.
