Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Josh Vickers, who has agreed a deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium until June 2021 and has subsequently been added to the club’s list to officially complete their 25-man squad, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 24-year-old had spent pre-season training with the Millers at Roundwood and has now been recruited by manager Paul Warne to replace the outgoing Lewis Price, following the expiration of his contract at Sky Bet League One outfit Lincoln City.

Vickers’ signing means that the Millers have now filled their 25-man squad list, having previously left a space free upon its initial submission following the closure of the ‘summer’ transfer window.

The former Lincoln man joins the goalkeeping ranks as another option for the Millers boss, who already has Jamal Blackman and Viktor Johansson in that department.

The stopper initially joined the Imps from Swansea City in 2017 upon the club's return to the EFL, and has since made 39 appearances across the EFL Trophy-winning season in 2017 and the League Two title-winning campaign of 2018.

Vickers would go on to establish himself as a mainstay between the sticks for the Imps last term, starting all of their Sky Bet League One fixture before the league was curtailed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He helped his side to 10 clean sheets, including one during Lincoln’s 2-0 win over the Millers at AESSEAL New York Stadium in August last year.

Having come through the youth ranks at Arsenal, the stopper had a loan spell at Canvey Island during the 2013/14 season. He then linked up with the Cowley brothers at Concord Rangers for a loan spell during the 2014/15 campaign before a subsequent loan move to Barnet.

Following a successful spell with the Imps he now arrives at AESSEAL New York Stadium as Paul Warne’s 10th signing of the 2020/21 campaign.

We will be bringing you reaction from Josh himself and Rotherham United manager Paul Warne here on www.themillers.co.uk.
