Following the successful streaming of Paul Warne’s testimonial, we have once again been trawling our archives for full match coverage of fixtures from years gone by and have unearthed a classic encounter between the Millers and Manchester City which we will stream ‘as live’ on Wednesday 6th May 2020.

Join us on our YouTube channel at 7pm for the full 90 minutes of coverage from this throwback to March 2002 and a Millers team who were enjoying their first season back in the second tier having earned themselves a second successive promotion under Ronnie Moore a season previously.

An incredibly talented City side arrived in South Yorkshire top of the Division One table having played 41 games, while Moore’s side were still looking to put clear distance between themselves and the relegation places in 18th place.

However, as was so often the case with the group of players of that era, the Millers defied the odds, displaying a togetherness and desire to succeed despite being the obvious underdogs.

There was an added incentive for the Millers in this particular fixture, following a 2-1 defeat in the reverse at Maine Road in which Christian Negouai's equalising goal was a topic of contention due to visitors’ claims he had handled the ball, after Chris Swailes had put the Millers in front.

In the Manchester City ranks for this game back at Millmoor were the likes of Stuart Pearce, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Darren Huckerby and Shaun Goater, while there were many of the familiar faces in Moore’s side who had helped the club to the second tier.

We’ll not tell you the score in case you’re either watching this one for the first time or have erased it from your memory for the purpose of enjoying this ‘as live’.
