Following today’s EFL meeting and subsequent confirmation that Rotherham United have been promoted to the Sky Bet Championship, the club are imploring supporters not to attend AESSEAL New York Stadium under any circumstances.
We understand that many of our fans will be keen to celebrate, but we must reiterate that this should not be done here at the stadium where there is a risk forming a public gathering which would go against the Government’s guidance on social distancing.
We are aware that the motivation for some fans for wanting to attend the club’s home ground will be to show their appreciation to our coaches and players for their efforts this season.
Our players and staff will be setting the example by enjoying their own celebrations away from the club, in keeping with the current Government advice regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and we ask that our supporters to do the same.
We all want to see a safe return for football and to do this, we must all continue to work together to ensure that happens sooner, rather than later.
We are hoping to bring you interviews from Chairman Tony Stewart and first team boss Paul Warne later today, so stay tuned on our official website and social media channels for reaction to our promotion to the second tier.
Enjoy the celebrations as best you can and stay safe.
Forever Together. Forever Proud.
