Rotherham United are delighted to confirm that club captain Richard Wood has signed a new deal which will keep him at AESSEAL New York Stadium until June 2021, subject to FA and EFL ratification.

The defender’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the 2019/20, but following a string of commanding performances in the heart of the Millers’ defence, Wood has been rewarded with an extended deal in South Yorkshire.

The popular defender, who helped Paul Warne’s side to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2017/18 with a brace in the showpiece Play-off final at Wembley, is a fans’ favourite at AESSEAL New York Stadium and is the club’s current longest serving player, having joined in 2014.

Wood has turned out 143 times for the Millers scoring 15 goals in the process, including the historic aforementioned double which helped the club to victory over Shrewsbury Town in the 2017/18 Play-off final.
