Rotherham United are delighted to welcome CityFibre to our ever-growing portfolio of business partners following the digital infrastructure providers signing a deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium with our commercial team.

Rotherham is one of the latest locations to benefit from a town-wide full fibre network roll-out from CityFibre, bringing next-generation digital infrastructure within reach of almost every home and business in the town.

CityFibre is currently investing up to £4bn in bringing full fibre to up to 8 million homes across the UK. In Rotherham, CityFibre is investing at least £29m in delivering its Gigabit City transformation, bringing high speed and high capacity full fibre broadband within reach of almost every home and business locally.

Currently, fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) is only available to around 15 per cent of premises across the UK. It is revered as the best in connectivity for its speed, near unlimited bandwidth and reliability. By using fibre optic cables for every stage of the connection from the customer’s home or business to the Internet, users will be offered a significantly superior and more reliable broadband service.

Capable of Gigabit speeds (1,000 Mbps), full fibre can do much more than simply help households access the latest entertainment at lightning speed and stream from multiple devices with ease. It is a key enabler for smart home technology, supports seamless home working and lays the foundations for smart city initiatives.

The network will support the innovative business community that helps drive the Rotherham economy. Through the adoption of next generation Full Fibre connectivity, businesses can drive innovation and productivity, giving them the platform they need to realise their growth ambitions.

Construction work has officially commenced in the Kimberworth area with Heneghan’s delivering the construction programme on CityFibre’s behalf. The company is using modern build techniques to deploy the network quickly. As services go live, they will be available from an increasing range of broadband providers. Across the UK, CityFibre is already working with Vodafone and Zen, and TalkTalk is expected to join the network soon.

CityFibre is working closely with Rotherham’s communities and stakeholders, including Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, to manage disruption and ensure a fast and successful roll-out, with residents kept informed by mailings ahead of works in their streets.
