SIGNING | Millers complete move for Birmingham City defender

Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the arrival of defender Wes Harding, who has completed the switch from Birmingham City to AESSEAL New York Stadium for an undisclosed fee, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

Harding, who is primarily a right back but can operate in a number of positions across the defence, has agreed a three-year deal with the Millers and becomes Paul Warne’s fourth signing ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

The 23-year-old arrives in South Yorkshire as one a footballer who has recently been involved in competitive fixtures following the coronavirus lockdown, having turned out for Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Despite still being in the relative infancy of his professional career, Harding has already has useful experience for the coming season under his belt, having represented Blues over 50 times in England’s second tier.

The Leicester-born defender joined Birmingham’s academy aged 16 in 2012, having impressed in that age group he progressed through the Under-18s and Under-23s sides; both of whom he captained.

He made his professional debut for Blues in August 2017, coming off the substitutes’ bench during a 5-1 success against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup.

His league bow came several months later in March 2018 in the 3-0 Sky Bet Championship victory against Hull City at St. Andrew's.

Harding has joined up with his Rotherham United teammates at Roundwood, where preparations continue for the Millers ahead of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
