Woodys commitment to making a difference in the local area has been recognised by the Professional Footballers’ Association.
Richard has been named Rotherham United’s PFA Community Champion of the Year for the 2019/20 season due to his commitment to making a difference in the local area.
The club captain is not only a leader on the pitch, he brings the same qualities off the field and thrives on making a difference in the local community.
Throughout the season he played a prominent role within the community attending numerous events and sessions hosted by both the Club and Trust, such as visits to local primary schools, community venues, key stake holder events, match day activities plus many more.
After winning the award, Woody commented:
“I’m delighted to receive this fantastic award, the club and community provide an amazing service to the local area and I will do everything I can to support them, regardless of the cause. Rotherham United and the local community are one big family, being a part of this for the last several years has been an honour.”

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) was formed on 2nd December 1907 and is the world’s longest established professional sportsperson’s union.
The aims of the PFA are to protect, improve and negotiate the conditions, rights and status of all professional players by collective bargaining agreements.
