Rotherham United were delighted to team up with Club Partners iPRO to show our collective support and appreciation to key workers in our supermarkets on Thursday, as first team defender Michael Ihiekwe delivered a special drop off of healthy hydration drinks to our friends at Morrisons, Parkgate.

Having earmarked the day for his shopping trip for essential items, Michael kindly agreed to tie his visit in with personally handing over the drinks generously donated by Club Partner, iPRO, to the staff at Morrisons, who like the rest of our fantastic workers on the front line have been clocking up countless hours since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Observing social distancing rules, the centre half thanked a number of the store’s staff on behalf of everyone at both iPRO and the club for their efforts in ensuring that we are still able to get the groceries we need throughout the lockdown period, before handing over numerous crates of the healthy hydration drinks used by the Millers first team during matches and training sessions, which will hopefully keep those on the front line hydrated as they continue to perform their vitally important roles.

Commercial Director Steve Coakley was delighted to see the Millers involved in facilitating the donation between two of the club’s key partners during these uncertain times, whilst taking time to reaffirm the importance of looking out for everyone still working on the front line during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It has been truly humbling to see the number of acts of human kindness on display recently with members of our community coming together to support one another,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“When colleagues at iPRO got in touch with the offer to help support our local community, we were only too pleased to get involved with making it happen.

“The people in medical professions and our NHS are quite rightly having their contributions recognised, but we were keen not forget the many other key workers that are putting in long shifts to help us all through this outbreak.

“We have a fabulous relationship with Parkgate and when iPRO told us they would like to make the donation of their healthy hydration drinks, we felt that it would be fitting to hand them on to the numerous staff around the supermarket who will no doubt need to stay hydrated whilst at work.

“Michael [Ihiekwe] put himself forward to personally take the drinks down to the staff at Morrisons, which is a testament to the culture we enjoy throughout the Club and hopefully he was able to bring a smile to many Millers-supporting staff they may have down there in the process.”

iPRO Commercial Manager, Lucy Darrall added: “At a time like this we all need to work together to spread kindness and give back those who are going the extra mile to help keep the country functioning.

“We at iPRO are passionate about promoting physical and mental wellbeing, especially during this stressful time and we hope that our donation of healthy hydration drinks will lift the spirits of the hardworking team of staff at Morrisons.

“We are proud to be a long-standing partner of Rotherham United, and the club’s rapid response to activate this idea is testimony to their continual support into the local community.”
