Rotherham United are delighted to confirm that defender Joe Mattock has signed a contract extension until 2022, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 29-year-old had been in the final year of his deal but will now remain at AESSEAL New York Stadium until the summer of 2022 after negotiations were concluded and he completed the necessary paperwork on Friday.

The left back is the second longest-serving member in the current Rotherham United ranks having signed for the club in 2015, with only Richard Wood arriving ahead of him.

The new contract means that Mattock’s affiliation with the Millers will run up to seven years which would exceed his stint with boyhood club Leicester City where he progressed through the ranks as a youngster.

The defender has been entrusted with the captain's armband on a number of occasions this season in the absence of Richard Wood and has been a key player for the Millers during his spell in Rotherham, making 168 appearances in league and cup competitions.
