When the sun goes down, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust’s lights come on for the Midnight Ramadan Trophy!

RUCST are delighted to announce the launch of this year’s Ramadan Trophy which will take place every Friday in May at Rotherham Football Centre.

The trophy is the first sporting offer in Rotherham for those participating in the holy month of Ramadan. Teams are invited to enter an adult 5aside team to take part in three league nights on the 10th, 17th and 24th of May with a finals night on the 31st of May. All times of the tournament are 11:30pm until 1:30am.

The five-a-side league is for 18 year-olds and above and teams are being encouraged to enter the league. There has been great interest in the league from not only the local community, but also South Yorkshire Police who have entered a team for the past two years.

Ben Winter, RUCST Inclusion Officer said,

“Each year the Ramadan Trophy grows from strength to strength providing football for members of the Muslim and wider Rotherham community. The league has been planned between the two meals fasting Muslims are permitted to eat: iftar and before suhoor, or sundown and sunrise. I am delighted to launch the Ramadan trophy in partnership with the Rotherham Football Centre and I would like to thank South Yorkshire Police for their continued support and participation. Although it’s called the Ramadan Trophy, we are hoping to see people from lots of different communities come together and enjoy football!’.
