Richie Barker talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United are set to meet prospective new arrivals next week, according to assistant manager Richie Barker.

The Millers made Carlton Morris their first close season recruit after securing a year-long loan for the Norwich City front-man, and they are now ready to step up their efforts to bring more fresh faces into the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Barker confirmed there are talks planned for next week with some potential signings, with meetings set to continue throughout June when other targets return from holiday.

Barker informed www.themillers.co.uk: “I know we are sitting down with people next week and then we'll be a little closer to knowing whether they are interested in coming or not.

“When players and agents go away on holiday, communications can become a little difficult, but we are progressing in a number of areas. We have some meetings pencilled in with players who are available, and it is then when we'll lay down what kind of culture we have here, and find out whether they are willing to buy into it.”

The Millers are in the process of their biggest turnover of players during Paul Warne’s tenure, as the staff look to freshen up a squad which still has a strong core of individuals who achieved promotion from League One in 2017/18.

The addition of Morris will bolster Warne’s attacking options, whilst another key area for strengthening will be in wide areas, with Barker confirming yesterday there were no further discussions planned with Ryan Williams and Jon Taylor.

Barker added: “With the situation as it is regarding our options in wide areas, we have probably spoken to more players in that position than any other at this stage. We are exploring opportunities with players who are out of contract with clubs, and those who we have made offers to clubs for.”

Barker also confirmed yesterday that renewed offers were made to Anthony Forde and Joe Newell, with news expected shorty.
