Trust’s Smear for Smear Campaign in support of International Women’s Day 2019
On Friday 8th March we will be taking a moment to acknowledge all the fantastic women we have here at the Trust, out in our community, and around the world, as part of International Women’s Day 2019.
It’s sometimes easy to take the women in our lives for granted. For many women being a mum, wife, sister, auntie, friend, running the house, keeping fit and holding down a job is just all part of the daily routine. So today we want to say Thank You!
Thank you for the contribution you make to the community of Rotherham, and we hope you will take a moment to appreciate just how amazing you are.
This did get us thinking though, what if these amazing women weren’t here anymore?
We are often so busy looking after everyone else that we don’t take the time to look after ourselves.
With this in mind we decided that this year we would use International Women’s Day to encourage the ladies of Rotherham to attend their smear test.
In 2015 3,126 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK
In 2016 854 women died from cervical cancer in the UK
63% of women diagnosed survive cervical cancer for 10 years or more
99.8% of cervical cancer cases in the UK are PREVENTABLE
None of us really want to go for our smear test. We feel awkward, and especially if it’s your first time it’s scary not knowing what to expect, but, it could save your life!!!
The website below gives a really good description of what you can expect, some helpful tips and also has a helpline number if you would like to chat to someone before you go
The test takes less than 5 minutes, and the nurses do the tests day in, day out. There’s really nothing to be worried about.
So ladies, as we celebrate all we are amazing at, let’s take time to recognise that looking after ourselves is just as important as looking after everyone else.
Make the appointment.
Much love
The RUCST Team
