Paul Warne talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne believes new signings Carlton Morris and Shaun MacDonald will fit seamlessly into the group, as his side near a return to training ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Warne needs no character reference for either player, both of whom he has worked with before either as a manager or as a teammate, and is confident that their transition into the Millers’ dressing room will be an easy one.

“I think those two will fit right in,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“There isn't going to be any initiation so to speak and I don't think there will be a slow period for them - I think they'll hit the ground running straight away.

“I didn't know until the other day that Shaun [MacDonald] played with Pricey. He's a great judge of character, so if Pricey has told him to come here then he knows exactly what I want.

“I played with Shaun and Carlton has been here before and as I've said previously, I've been in contact with Carlton ever since he left.

“It wouldn't make any difference who the two were as long as I liked them and I know what they can do on a football pitch.”

With both signings adding strength down the spine of the team, the Millers boss continued to hint that he could opt to utilise a different tactical shape next season, while adding that MacDonald’s versatility would allow him to star in a number of roles across the midfield.

“At the moment, the system I'm going to play next season is under debate because if we don't replace wingers we'll have to look at playing a different way and that may allow us to play two up and three in the middle,” Warne explained.

“He [MacDonald] can play in one of five positions across the middle of the park really, so I'm not too concerned, I just hope that he can get himself in a place where he gets in the XI because we will definitely be a stronger team with him in it.

“He's had two promotions to the Premier League in fairness and he is just a perfect character for this club.”
